Doors and passageways- what lies behind, ahead, within. The possibilities are endless. This is a continuing theme for me. Doorways, country roads and aged buildings, evoke a world of discovery and promise. They tell stories of the past, out of which the present and future emerge. I am working on a new series of paintings from my recent trips to Italy and Chile. Exploring these wonderful places, I find fresh ways of looking at the world. Please contact me if you have any questions about available artwork, commissions or the selection of prints.

This summer marks the 3oth year of the Hawk Creek Gallery, Michael's studio and gallery in the lovely Oregon coastal village of Neskowin. If you are on the coast this summer we hope you will stop by, meet Michael, and view his new artwork. He will be featuring new watercolors of his native Oregon coastal environment, paintings from his recent trip to Mali, in West Africa, as well as work from Italy and South America. We look forward seeing you this summer!

Trip to Mali

This past December Michael was chosen for a grant to travel to Mali, in West Africa, as a Speaker and Specialist for the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of International Information Programs. He taught a Master Class at the National Art Conservatory in the capital city of Bamako as well as giving presentations and lectures to other groups. He also traveled the country, meeting local artists. Michael’s paintings have been on display in the Ambassador's residence for the past three years through the Art in the Embassies program.

"As an artist, one needs to look deep within yourself to get past the easy answers. Creativity comes from probing the edge of your response to your environment, actual or metaphorical."
