2010 Summer Season at Hawk Creek Gallery
"Proposal Pilgrimage"
32"x40"
Michael's studio/gallery, the Hawk Creek Gallery, is now open daily, 11-5, for the summer. The gallery is located just off HWY 101, 200 yds. north of the entrance to Neskowin, a charming seaside village, at 4800 Schoolhouse Rd (503-392-3879). Michael is exhibiting new watercolor and acrylic paintings, both of the beautiful Oregon coast and from his recent travels. The gallery annex is now also open on weekends, housing the gallery of Michael's sister Suzanne. We look forward seeing you at the beach this summer!
One of Michael's paintings has again been chosen by the US State Department for its Art in the Embassy Program. The painting, "Road to Assisi" will hang in the Ambassador's residence in Kathmandu, Nepal for three years.

A New Year
I was sitting in my living room pondering the coming year when I was startled by a crash- the painting hanging over my fireplace had decided at that moment to leap off the wall. In doing so it cleared the mantle of pottery and assorted objet d’art, all of which now lay shattered and scattered over the floor.
While cleaning up the mess, it occurred to me this was a potent metaphor for the coming year. A time to sweep out the shards of a difficult and challenging year, rearrange things and embrace something new.
I begin 2010 with great anticipation and promise. I’ll be leaving soon for an exciting sketching and painting trip to Chile and Patagonia. The incredibly varied landscape and rich architecture I’ve experienced there in the past looks to provide me with much inspiration. Also, I will be returning to Italy in September, leading a painting workshop outside of Florence. For you who have always wanted to paint in Tuscany, this will be a wonderful opportunity.
Closer to home, a building project is nearing completion at my Hawk Creek Gallery in Neskowin, Oregon. The gallery, entering its 32nd season, has always been a family affair. The new building was designed by my mom, who, in her ninth decade, now has the painting studio she’s always wanted. She continues to be an inspiration to us all. The space will house my sister’s studio as well.
I look forward seeing many of you this year at the gallery, and for those who can’t make it to the coast, I hope you will occasionally check out my web site for new work and updates. Feel free to contact me to visit my studio and view new paintings in person. I wish you all a productive and peaceful year...and my one piece of advice- when hanging a painting, use a large enough nail!

This past May Michael again exhibited a selection of paintings at The Bridges in Rancho Santa Fe, CA. His Italian themed artwork was well received at this gorgeous, Tuscan-inspired community.
