A trip to Japan early in my career started a life-long love of travel. For me, immersing myself in a foreign culture lets me make unexpected emotional and visual connections in my work. I have spent a considerable amount of time in Italy, starting with teaching workshops in Tuscany in the late ‘90’s, continuing to this day. The opportunity to travel for the US State Department to Mali, in West Africa, as a cultural speaker was an unforgettable experience.
